Eviden, a brand under the Atos Group known for its advanced computing solutions, has announced the latest rankings of its systems in the TOP500 and Green500 lists, which detail the world's most powerful and energy-efficient supercomputers.
JUPITER, built by Eviden, is recognised as the 4th most powerful supercomputer globally and the most powerful in Europe, achieving the distinction of being the continent's first computer to surpass the symbolic ExaFlop barrier, which equates to one billion billion calculations per second.
Europe's exascale achievement
Notably, Eviden has also continued to lead the Green500 list, securing the top three positions with its systems KAIROS, ROMEO, and Levante GPU extension standing out for their energy efficiency.
JUPITER, in particular, has been acknowledged as the most energy-efficient among exascale-class supercomputers. Such accomplishments highlight Eviden's dedication to promoting innovation and sustainable growth within the field of high-performance computing.
JUPITER's development was a collaborative effort by the Jülich Supercomputing Centre in association with the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking and was procured by EuroHPC. As Europe's first exascale computer, it facilitates pioneering AI training and advanced scientific simulations across various sectors, including climate research, energy, medicine, and materials science. It has already supported over 100 projects, achieving significant milestones such as simulating a quantum computer with 50 qubits and modelling Earth systems at detailed resolutions.
Pioneering energy efficiency
JUPITER's Booster partition has been celebrated in the Green500 rankings as the most energy-efficient system
Ranked 4th on the TOP500 and pioneering Europe, JUPITER's Booster partition has been celebrated in the Green500 rankings as the most energy-efficient system among exascale-class computers.
With an impressive output of 63 GigaFlops per watt, it excels in performance while minimising energy consumption compared to its peers when scaled to an equivalent 1 ExaFlop performance.
Constructed swiftly with sustainable principles, JUPITER is setting new global efficiency benchmarks and is poised to serve as the cornerstone of the JUPITER AI Factory, offering secure AI model access for various research and industrial purposes.
Top Positions in Green500
Eviden's leadership in sustainable computing is further reinforced by its capture of the top three ranks in the Green500, with KAIROS, ROMEO, and Levante GPU extension leading the list.
The Green500 ranking is pivotal as it measures GFlops per watt, signifying the number of calculations performed per energy unit consumed. A higher GFlop/Watt value indicates more efficient energy consumption and cost savings.
The company's success stems from significant innovations, notably in its patented Direct Liquid Cooling technology and energy-efficient high-performance computing applications, bolstered by intelligent software like Argos for real-time energy management. As demand for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing explodes, Eviden exemplifies sustainable development in the sector.
A Proud Achievement for Eviden
Bruno Lecointe, VP of HPC, HPC-AI, and Quantum Computing at Eviden, Atos Group, expressed pride: “Breaking the symbolic 1 ExaFlop ceiling, building the most energy-efficient Exascale supercomputer and leading the Green500 with the top three positions is a defining and proud moment for the Eviden teams.”
He highlighted that the future of computing encompasses not only scale and speed but also responsibility, emphasising the importance of delivering unparalleled power with minimal environmental impact.
As global demand for AI and high-performance computing surges, Eviden remains dedicated to innovating in ways that blend performance with efficiency, fostering a more sustainable digital landscape for science, industry, and society.
