There is an old saying: Less is more—and in video surveillance, having fewer cameras deployed without sacrificing coverage or features has many benefits. Each camera deployment requires multiple cables for power, IP network connectivity and in some cases, external lights and activity sensors. The wiring constraints alone can mean that labour can eclipse hardware cost with unwanted added complexity. Instead, the new MOBOTIX S16 offers an elegant solution. Like the rest of the Mx6 product line, the S16 includes RTSP/Multicast for simultaneous streaming of MxPEG, M-JPEG and H.264 within an ONVIF-ready system plus advanced 3D motion detection.
However, the S16 is a core device offering two separate camera modules attached via 3 metre cables. These modules include day, night or even thermal video with a variety of lenses. Each S16 core can also connect a host of accessories including GPS for mobile applications, security doorbell and opener, interface box for serial and USB to activate external devices amongst a list of over a dozen add-ons. The result is a flexible and reliable system that is easier to install and maintain. In other words, more for less!
