ASSA ABLOY’s Aperio® secures and monitors the University of Surrey
ASSA ABLOY’s Aperio® secures and monitors the University of Surrey

For one of the UK's leading science universities, flexibility is the key to Aperio® from ASSA ABLOY. After upgrading security at the Manor Park Campus with an access control system using Aperio® wireless lock technology, the University of Surrey immediately looked to roll the technology out to more sites. “The installation of Aperio® has proven hugely popular and we are already extending their use to student accommodation and looking at ways to install the solution across the main University,” says Alan Donnachie, Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities at the University of Surrey. Secure and monitor site access The university's cost-effective wireless Aperio® solution now allows campus facilities managers to secure and monitor access at the site, conduct real-time audits, and update access permissions instantly. Andrew Bowes, Director of ASSA ABLOY's installation partner WOT Security, said: “The great benefit of working with Aperio® is its flexibility to adapt to any situation and seamlessly integrate into the ARX access control system and other systems, to enable a wire-free deployment, without the need to modify the doors.” Available on the global market place, ASSA ABLOY’s Aperio® Technology enables a wide range of access control providers to cost-effectively integrate non-wired doors with mechanical locks into access control systems. Recently ranked by the Guardian newspaper among the UK's top 10 universities, the University of Surrey houses 18,000 students and 3,000 staff across campuses in Guildford, south-east England.   For further information, please go to: www.assaabloy.co.uk/aperiowirelesslocks

Aperio® wireless locks protects patients and confidential patient data at Hospital Maria Middelares
Aperio® wireless locks protects patients and confidential patient data at Hospital Maria Middelares

A modern hospital demands flexible, modern, secure access control, around the clock and 365 days a year. At Ghent’s new Hospital Maria Middelares, ASSA ABLOY delivered just that. Aperio® wireless locks now protect patients and confidential patient data, as well as medicines and other valuable hospital equipment.  Securing doors with Aperio® wireless locks: Hospital Maria Middelares is a vital part of the health infrastructure in Belgium’s second largest city and must remain reliably in operation and secure 24/7, 365 days a year. Its new Aperio® installation ensures the hospital has a wireless access control system that can be extended whenever needed. The deployment is 100 percent wireless, maintaining building aesthetics. Staff at Hospital Maria Middelares now have a user-friendly smart card system for opening doors and accessing other secure areas, fitted with standard MIFARE RFID technology. In partnership with Nedap, around 700 doors in the first new hospital building have been fitted with wireless Aperio® Offline locks connected to the Nedap access control system. Aperio® Offline integration supports both the Aperio® “data on card” model and the Standard Offline Access Application (SOAA), an open standard developed by ASSA ABLOY and other industry leaders. “Very important for the success of this project was the seamless integration between the Nedap access control system and Aperio® as well as cooperation with the local system integrator,” says Piet Van Den Bossche, Business Unit Manager Access Control at ASSA ABLOY Belgium. About Aperio®: Available on the global market place, ASSA ABLOY’s Aperio® Technology enables a wide range of access control providers to cost-effectively integrate non-wired doors with mechanical locks into access control systems. About Hospital Maria Middelares: The Hospital Maria Middelares is currently spread over two sites, in Ghent and Gentbrugge. A major infrastructure project is under way to replace these with one new complex, in Ghent, where it will play a vital role in health provision to Belgium’s second city. EGM Architects developed the project in cooperation with Belgian partner LLOX. The first building at the new facility opened in March 2014.

High-end component design and OEM integration make Aperio® the right choice for Hyatt hotels
High-end component design and OEM integration make Aperio® the right choice for Hyatt hotels

A new 5-star hotel in Dubai’s Healthcare City, the Hyatt Regency Dubai Creek Heights has 464 luxury rooms spread over 34 floors. It caters to both business and leisure travellers. The hotel required a new electronic access control system for its non-public facing areas, including administrative back-office space. The job demanded premium build quality that is found throughout all Hyatt Regency properties. Key requirements included: Electronic locks that would integrate seamlessly with the Gallagher access control system installed at the hotel.   A full range of both online and offline locks that could be deployed where appropriate.   Locks that are wireless, and with a design that would work alongside the contemporary layout of the new commercial areas.   Reliable technical and customer support from both ASSA ABLOY and a local system integrator.   Cost-effective solution to meet project budgets. Hyatt required both online and offline locks to do different jobs on different doors. To date, local system integrator Al Futtaim Technologies has installed 25 Aperio® online E100 escutcheons and over 50 offline E900 escutcheons. Aperio® enables security managers at the new Hyatt to monitor doors remotely; to open doors wirelessly; and to create audit trails for specific doors on demand. Aperio® wireless escutcheons Component design was crucial in choosing Aperio®. Attractive Aperio® escutcheons were selected to complement the contemporary, luxurious feel of the Hyatt’s decor. All Aperio® escutcheons are wireless, so there’s no ugly cabling to spoil the aesthetics and installation is quick and affordable — helping to keep the project within budget. Integration with Gallagher’s access control system was also crucial. Gallagher’s Aperio® integration is seamless, as ASSA ABLOY demonstrated live in Dubai at 2015’s Intersec exhibition. Another official OEM partner, x-Plan, integrates the offline Aperio® E900 escutcheons at the new Hyatt. Aperio® locks to flexible upgrade It is easy to incorporate additional Aperio® locks into the same security system, should the hotel need them. Access control at Dubai’s new Hyatt Regency is future-proofed. For more on how Aperio® can protect your premises, see www.assaabloy.co.uk/aperiowirelesslocks
