Delta Scientific Corporation is the world's leading manufacturer of vehicle access control equipment. Delta Scientific has been engineering and manufacturing vehicle access control equipment since 1974 and sells its products worldwide.
Expanded manufacturing capabilities
With a combined 260,000 square feet of manufacturing space, our new Palmdale manufacturing facility, in addition to the present Valencia site, is helping Delta Scientific meet the increased requirements and demands of its continually growing domestic and international customer base.
Official opening ceremonies for our $8 million, 125,000-square-foot Palmdale, Calif. Manufacturing Center took place Tuesday, June 29, 2004, which also happened to be Delta's 30-year anniversary. The ceremonies included proclamations and speeches by local, state and federal elected officials or their representatives.
We believe Delta Scientific is the type of company that portrays the essence of California industry by bringing technologically advanced solutions to global customers. After 30-plus years, we continue to have faith in the skills of the California workforce, as our substantial investment in this major expansion illustrates.
During the grand opening ceremonies, U.S. Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon, 25th District of California (R-Santa Clarita), presented Delta Scientific management with a flag that had flown over the U.S. Capitol building. He affirmed, "I really appreciate what you are doing to help our troops and people around the world who are working for freedom."
The new Palmdale facility is testimony to the increasing need for protecting the world's infrastructures against the threat of vehicle bombings as well as the role of California's skilled workforce in creating the solutions to do so. Since the assault of Sept. 11, 2001, Delta Scientific's production has more than doubled in its present Valencia buildings. In 2007 Delta completed its phase two building adding 57,000 square feet of manufacturing, assembly and warehousing space to complete our expansion plans.
Crash tests prove our products
Delta pioneered the use of "Finite Element Analysis" to study vehicle collisions. With our database of full-scale tests, we now have excellent computer models that enable us to test new designs on the computer. We are able to analyse special applications and design custom products to meet our customer requirements. This is the science part of our business led by engineers Harry Dickinson and Jim Burnett.
Testing sites use a variety of methods of driving a vehicle into our barricades. Some use a trailing vehicle with an umbilical cord to guide the test vehicle into the barricade. Others use a steel cable and winch engine. The truck is pulled into the barricade using the cable that runs under the barricade.
The most exotic method we have seen used was by the US Navy China Lake testing facility. It seems that they have a lot of surplus Zuni rockets. They mount rockets on the truck bed and propel the truck down a mono-rail where it then runs free the last 20 feet before it hits the barricade. All of Delta's crash tests have been successful and some of them are spectacular to watch on video. Imagine a 2.5 ton truck loaded to 15,000 pounds hitting a barricade, bollard or gate at 50 miles per hour. After the impact you can drag the truck away and the barricade still functions. The bollards crack engine blocks open and sliding gates flatten the nose of a truck.
Not all of our customers need counter-terrorist barricades, but most feel reassured that if a Delta product is used at their corporate headquarters or parking facility, the product will meet our claims and stop unwanted vehicles or prevent vehicle thefts.
In late 2007 Delta has been testing and qualifying its products in the United Kingdom to qualify them for use within the UK and Europe.
U.S. Federal Government, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, local police departments, U.S. and foreign embassies, private companies and private residences.
U.S. Department of State, U.S. Capitol, Reagan Presidential Library, Singapore Parliament, LAX Airport, Pearl Harbor Navy Piers, Kabul and Yemen, Baghdad Embassies, Buckingham Palace, Japanese Imperial Palace, Diet Building and Ministry of Defense.
Delta has supplied counter-terrorist barricade systems to over 100 U.S. embassies and consulates in 130-plus countries as well as those of the United Kingdom and other nations. In the United States alone, Delta has secured over 110 Federal buildings, including courthouses and FBI locations. Over 85 percent of all U.S. nuclear power plants are protected by Delta vehicle barricade systems.
Delta Scientific systems also protect the U.S. Capitol and other Washington landmark buildings, high-rises throughout the world, Broadway pedestrians in New York City, corporate facilities, the Singapore parliament, power and water infrastructure locales, European castles and the private homes of celebrities and influential people in Beverly Hills and other upscale communities.
