The Biometrics Institute was founded to respond to an industry need for an independent and impartial international forum to share knowledge and information about biometrics and to provide best-practice guidance around the responsible use of biometrics.

The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) was formed on April 1 2015. It replaced the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), which previously provided national police coordination and leadership. ACPO was closed down on March 31 2015. NPCC helps police cut crime and keep public safe by joining up the operational response. NPCC works closely with the College of Policing, which is responsible for developing professional standards.
