Introducing emerald, CEM System's multifunctional IP access terminal

Published on 19 December, 2014

CEM Systems is part of the Security Products business unit of Tyco, the world’s largest pure-play fire protection and Security Company.

CEM provides highly advanced security management solutions which include integrated access control, ID badging, alarm monitoring and the industry’s most advanced and flexible range of card readers.

From a small facility to a large multi-site facility the sophisticated AC2000 access control system and advanced CEM products provide a solution to meet even the most complex needs.

Each CEM system can be customised to specifically fit the security needs of the customer, ensuring a powerful, tailored level of protection that simply cannot be matched in the industry.

CEM have continuously developed and innovated with the core AC2000 security management system and successful introduced several industry firsts. These include intelligent card readers with built in memory, Power over Ethernet Plus door control and portable handheld card readers.

emerald is the latest development in CEM’s continued innovation in access control.

emerald intelligent access terminal

One of the most innovative products in the CEM portfolio is the emerald intelligent multifunctional IP access terminal that provides more at the door.

The first of its kind, emerald is a Touch Screen Reader, Door Controller, VOIP Intercom and System Terminal all in a single terminal. The innovative touch screen LCD is the first of its kind to ‘greet’ cardholders by illuminating as they approach, providing a user friendly security experience.

For the first time, security professionals can use remote apps at the device to update personnel records, book meeting rooms, and even send important messages to cardholders such as Wrong Door, Lost/Stolen Card, Expiring Card and Access Granted. emerald also acts as an information point by displaying general company information and audible prompts to enhance user experience.

The latest release offers even more enhanced emerald functionality including the new Image on Swipe mode. With Image on Swipe mode, emerald will display the cardholder’s image for verification and will grant or deny access on the basis of this verification. This feature allows for an additional security level, where personnel photograph can be immediately verified at point of entry.

These leading edge remote apps display real time information and statistics that can be used by specific card holders, security personnel and maintenance engineers to quickly and accurately access the information they need directly at the door without having to go to the AC2000 client PC.

With advanced IP reader and controller functionality in one device, emerald communicates directly to the AC2000 host server using Ethernet connectivity, removing the need for an additional controller in the system design. The terminal has a large internal database enabling it to operate in offline mode should communications be temporarily lost with the host server.

emerald can be used at sites where a traditional access control reader is used, such as schools, hospitals, airports, ports, casinos and many more; anywhere that requires the highest level of security to ensure the safety of employees, the public and the site. With features such as VoIP Intercom, Threat Levels and Scramble Keypad for PIN access, security can be heightened at restricted areas e.g. hospital pharmacies, air traffic control tower, or increased if the site is on high alert.

As an intelligent device emerald goes beyond securing premises, it empowers users and helps improve business operational efficiency.
