Two Norwich security officers, Richard Markham and John Disspain, have been highly praised for the exceptional service they provide to the general public, customers and staff at Norwich Union's prestigious Marble Hall building in the centre of Norwich. Police plan to enlist small businesses in war on terror

The police intend to expand a groundbreaking scheme that will see small and medium-sized businesses gather local intelligence on suspicious persons and activities for the benefit of all.

Safety at work issues debated at South West conference

Business must help with security reforms, urges industry chief

Retailers and other business sectors must co-operate more closely with security firms in order for the regulation of the industry to be a success, David Dickinson, chief executive of the British Security Industry Association, told a Reliance Security Services seminar in Birmingham.

Mr Dickinson was commenting on the reforms introduced earlier this year, which outlawed unlicensed private security personnel and made their employment by businesses illegal. However, some businesses were continuing to use unlicensed staff, he said - a move that was making the job of enforcing the legislation difficult.

Britain’s police forces have been urged to embrace the private security industry in the fight against crime as the industry undergoes the biggest change in its history.
