New security control room for The Mall Selborne Walk, Walthamstow provided by G1 Safety and security for shoppers and tenants

G1 won the contract to build a completely new security control room for The Mall Selborne Walk in Walthamstow, East London. The system went live in April, 2005.

The Mall Selborne Walk has been operating for 18 years and is one of 22 malls operated and owned by the Mall Group in the UK. The new CCTV system includes the video monitoring of the interior of the shopping centre building, retail shop fronts and car park using Pelco Spectra III series high speed dome cameras.

Inside the control room are 4 JVC 17-inch high resolution LCD monitors, model LM-17G mounted on Ergotron stands and located the operator's desk. These are used for monitoring alarms, CCTV camera images, shopping centre car park images and spot monitoring. For recording of video images, the system incorporates an Integral DigitalSentry digital recording system by Tour Andover Controls enabling any event to be located within 3 to 4 seconds.

6 JVC TM-A210G high resolution colour monitors are installed in a monitor wall at eye level for CCTV image monitoring. The deceptively spacious, ergonomic and well designed control room furniture system is manufactured by Gresham Wood. G1 has also installed the office air conditioning.

Chris Best, Director at G1 comments, "The security control room has been designed for long term use and will be monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We have provided full training to control room personnel, as well as the supply, installation and maintenance of the electronic surveillance systems. Around the clock security is provided by the 24 hour G1 security maintenance line."

Alex Bagnall, Operations Manager at The Mall Selborne Walk comments, "Motion detection has been introduced using the Integral digital recording system which we didn't have before. Our security control room is so well designed and we are 100% sure that it will improve the monitoring environment to improve the security and safety of visitors to our shopping centre. The service from G1 has been very good and the quality of the CCTV images and monitors are excellent."

"The Mall Selborne Walk is actively involved as a member of the Action Against Business Crime partnership which aims to support and develop business crime partnerships in local areas and establish firm links between businesses, crime reduction partnerships, police and local agencies.  G1 have been instrumental in providing us with a solution which enables us to be actively involved in this partnership," states Alex Bagnall.

"The main security threats to The Mall Selborne Walk and surrounding areas include everyday occurrences such as theft and criminal damage through to the more sensitive cases of lost children or threatening behavior.  Our investment in a new CCTV control room gives us the ability now to effectively protect staff and shoppers," states Alex Bagnall.
