LEGIC® in universities - All-in-one student card thanks to partnership with InterCard

Published on 15 June 2007

LEGIC Identsystems Ltd, the leading manufacturer of contactless smart card systems for personal identification applications, and InterCard GmbH Kartensysteme, the market leader in multifunctional card systems, have signed a licence agreement.  LEGIC all-in-one card technology is a perfect fit with InterCard systems and makes it possible to tap into new markets.

InterCard GmbH Kartensysteme, formed in 1978, is based in Villingen-Schwenningen, Germany and has been developing and distributing multifunctional card systems for universities, colleges and other educational establishments since 1999.  Together with its subsidiary, InterCard AG, it is the market leader in Germany.  UniCard, InterCard's electronic student ID, replaces previous paper IDs, library passes, refectory cards, photocopier cards, access keys and IDs for public transport with just one card.  Over 130 universities, colleges and student unions in Germany alone have already put their trust in the high level of security and reliability of InterCard systems.  More than 800,000 students already use this student ID every day.  The company is not only continuously expanding its product range and extending and enhancing its technologies, it is also opening up new markets.  With its SchoolCard for schools, TeamCard for businesses and authorities, and its ClinicCard for university hospitals and hospitals, InterCard offers comparable products for other target groups that have specific and sometimes totally different requirements.

InterCard has set international standards for many years now with its paper-based disposable photocopier cards and has an extensive international network of distributors and partners.  The company has used this network to distribute its contactless electronic card systems since 2006.   Initial successes in Belgium, Austria and Switzerland confirm the positive outlook for future growth.  Contactless LEGIC all-in-one card technology with up to 127 applications on a single card offers countless ways of extending InterCard's previous portfolio and responding quickly to new needs when it comes to multifunctionality and security.

"LEGIC all-in-one card technology is not only an excellent fit with our existing product line, thanks to its multifunctionality, we are now able to strengthen our collaboration with existing customers by selectively offering supplementary products and tapping into new markets in line with our company strategy" says Gerson Riesle, Chairman of the Board of Management of InterCard GmbH Kartensysteme.  "We trust LEGIC contactless smart card technology and are pleased to be a member of LEGIC's international partner network."

Klaus U. Klosa, Managing Director of LEGIC Identsystems Ltd, is also happy with his new licence partner:  "We welcome InterCard as a new member of the LEGIC network and are convinced that this partnership with such an established supplier of card systems will generate many innovative ideas and solutions for successfully deploying our contactless smart card technology.  We look forward to our fruitful cooperation!"
