Honeywell helps leading European airline streamline and simplify for higher security

Published on 4 July 2006

EasyJet saves with Honeywell Access Control at 15 European locations

Honeywell today announced easyJet, Europe's leading low-fares airline, will gain cost savings and efficiency without sacrificing security - easyJet's No 1 priority.

With its upgraded access control solution and integrated ID card system, easyJet is replacing a number of stand-alone access control systems that had become outdated and could no longer accommodate the changing requirements of a growing business.  And, its management found that the highly variable system was expensive and time consuming to operate, especially as the numbers of users grew.

The access control system has been initially installed in the new Training Academy, at easyJet's HQ - easyLand - and at airport bases in Bristol and Milan.  It is now rolling out the solution to 12 other easyJet bases across Europe.

The new system enables easyJet to centrally manage all doors, from any location across the internal IT network, at all bases around the UK and Europe - allowing a more efficient, manageable and secure process for the Airline's 4000+ staff to access all authorised areas, whilst improving the responsiveness of the system to changing situations.

"Honeywell and TSP won the project on competitive tender, offering the best solution, the best package and the most flexible approach.  Honeywell is our partner of choice," comments Jo Huggett, easyJet's Regional Facilities Manager who was responsible for sourcing a new access control solution.  Among the factors for easyJet‘s selection of Honeywell: its reputation as a reliable global security brand, whose products have a proven track record at other airports and airlines around the world and are used extensively in similar multi-national, enterprise-level solutions.

Building Services Consultancy, NorWood Consultants, assisted easyJet in the specification process and selection of Honeywell access control solutions, which will be installed and maintained by Total Security Protection (TSP).

In addition to the installation of the new access control system at easyJet's Training Academy, TSP also installed a Honeywell digital video recorder (DVR) in the Emergency Evacuation Training room.  EasyJet sought to capture images of all staff training on aircraft emergency slides.  The recordings are required for health and safety purposes, and for future reference to check events.  All recordings are stored for seven years.  The DVR provides one terabyte of storage and images are regularly copied to DVD for archiving as part of the health and safety requirement.  The Training Academy hosts between 250 to 400 people each month.

Total Security Protection (TSP) is one of Honeywell Security's leading installation customers, specialising in CCTV and access control solutions.  TSP's ability to provide a dedicated installation team to work across Europe was a key requirement for this project.
