Intrepid retailer keeps close tabs on customers

Published on 4 October 2005

Wynsors World of Shoes has teamed up with Intrepid Security Solutions to develop a footfall monitoring system.

Wynsors World of Shoes has shown that investing in the latest retail technology can help retailers understand sales trends, attract more customers and transform in-store security.  The fast-growing footwear retailer, which has 25 stores throughout Lancashire, Yorkshire and the North East, has introduced a range of innovative measures to enhance its business.

Up-to-the-minute information on special offers is sent from Wynsors’ head office in Bacup via broadband and broadcast on Wynsors FM throughout the stores to entice shoppers to buy.  Customers are also encouraged to register with Wynsors so they can enter “Text to Win” competitions, as well as receive text messages about the retailer’s latest products and promotions.

Wynsors’ latest technological innovation is a system which can monitor customer footfall which the retailer has developed in partnership with Intrepid Security Solutions.

David Wilson, operations manager for Wynsors World of Shoes, says: “A point-to-point beam provided by Intrepid has been installed at the entrance to a number of our stores.  Once activated, the beam logs everybody who enters or leaves the stores and sends that information to our IT server back at head office, where we can analyse the data.”

Footfall data will help Wynsors identify customer behaviour patterns and also take the guesswork out of staffing, as the retailer can work out what times of the day stores are busy.

When Wynsors selected a company to help develop a footfall monitoring system, Intrepid Security Solutions was the obvious choice.  Intrepid has been a long-time supplier to Wynsors and has just completed its 25th installation of EAS tagging at the retailer’s stores.

“If we didn’t have the tagging systems, our shrinkage would be huge,” says Wynsors’ Dave Wilson.  “We sell approximately 100,000 pairs of shoes a week, including designer brands such as Nike, Adidas and Reebok and so security tagging is absolutely essential.”

Intrepid supplies security antennae for store entrances, along with security pins and tags. Wynsors has found the tagging equipment effective and reliable, but if any maintenance is required, Intrepid can respond quickly.  Wynsors’ David Wilson says: “Intrepid provides an excellent maintenance service and will respond within 24 hours if any of our systems go out of sync.”

With Intrepid Security Solutions providing and supporting quality security and management information systems, Wynsors World of Shoes looks set to continue setting the trend for independent retailers.
