Beijing Capital International Airport purchases seven GE Security CTX 9000 inline explosives detection systems

Published on 13 November 2006

Beijing deployment of GE CTX 9000s to help protect Olympic Athletes and visitors; will serve as regional model for baggage screening installations

GE Security Inc., a wholly-owned indirect subsidiary of the General Electric Co., today announced a contract to supply seven CTX 9000 DSi advanced baggage screening systems to Beijing International Airport's terminal three as part of the city's infrastructure investment for the 2008 Olympic Games.

When installed in the new terminal, the GE Security CTX 9000 DSi advanced technology explosives detection systems will serve as a model for inline baggage screening systems throughout the country and region.

China is investing $2 billion USD to develop terminal three as a modern gateway to accommodate up to 35 million air passengers and 170,000 flights per year.  The terminal three development is part of an unprecedented $40 billion USD infrastructure investment ahead of the 2008 Olympic Games, which host city Beijing anticipates to be among the most profitable and well attended recent Games.

"GE Security is pleased Beijing Capital International Airport has selected the CTX 9000 for its explosives detection system in terminal three," said Dennis Cooke, president, GE Security's Homeland Protection business.  "Beijing leads a growing trend across Asia, and around the world, to the deployment of advanced technology inline baggage screening using the CTX 9000, to help improve the effectiveness and efficiency of bag screening while maintaining passenger satisfaction."

Jim Fisher, president of GE China Olympic Solutions, said:  "As a worldwide Olympic partner, we are proud to provide a wide range of products and services to help make the Olympic Games in Beijing more successful.   Security is a key business that is a critical part of the Olympic infrastructure.   We look forward to working with our customers in their endeavor to enhance the security capability of the airport, Olympic venues and public facilities."

The GE CTX 9000 DSi system represents the latest in CTX technology.  Designed to integrate with airport baggage handling systems (BHS), the CTX 9000 DSi system is TSA-certified and is often well suited to fast-paced airport environments.  It is the highest operational throughput explosives detection system designed for BHS integration and its meter-wide conveyor belt and large tunnel opening can accommodate both large and standard-size bags.

Designed for ease of operation and service, with multiplexing capabilities and a low false alarm rate, the CTX 9000 DSi system can be an excellent investment for high-volume airports.  Its advanced technology can assist customers to efficiently and accurately identify the most challenging substances.
