Influencer in the aluminium industry retires

Published on 1 April 2008

Iain Mackay retires from Adams Rite after 25 yearsThe chairman of leading security solutions supplier, Adams Rite has retired after more than 25 years with the company.  Iain Mackay joined Adams Rite in 1982 as General Sales Manager and held positions of Sales & Marketing Director and Managing Director before becoming Chairman in 2007.  As well as taking the helm of Adams Rite, Iain has been instrumental in the development of the aluminium and fenestration industry.

Following his time as President of the Aluminium Windows Association from 1992 - 1994, Iain was a founding member of CAB (Council for Aluminium in Building), which was formed when the Aluminium Windows Association, the Architectural Aluminium Association and the Patent Glazing Contractors Association joined together in 1994.

Iain supported the development of CAB, helping it to grow from a small organisation to the major influence it now plays within the industry - representing the commercial interests of the aluminium fenestration market.  Due to his commitment to CAB and hard work within the sector, Iain was elected President of the Council in 1997 and presented with a lifetime achievement award in 2004 for his services to CAB.

During his time at Adams Rite, the company saw a major shift in its focus - from supplying the majority of locks for the domestic sliding aluminium door market, to focussing on the manufacture and supply of hardware products for the commercial aluminium door market - which it is continuing to grow within today.

Iain is reflective on his time at Adams Rite:  "My 25 years at Adams Rite has been challenging, fulfilling, but above all enjoyable and obviously I am sad to be leaving it all behind.  It is a great company and I wish it continued success in the future.  However, now is the time for me to spend more time with my family, including our new granddaughter, and to improve my golf handicap."

David Wigglesworth, Managing Director of Adams Rite comments on Iain's retirement and the future:  "On behalf of all the team at Adams Rite, I would just like to say a massive thank you to Iain for his contributions and support, not only for Adams Rite, but for the industry as a whole.  We now look forward to continuing Iain's hard work with continued growth of the company and development of the market."
