BBV and Dedicated Micros secure premier award for Pick-a-Point Virtual Matrix

Published on 16 June 2006

Integrator BBV and Dedicated Micros are celebrating after the market-leading Pick-a-Point Virtual Matrix solution secured the prestigious 2006 PSI (Professional Security Installer) Premier Award for Product Innovation, with the result being announced on June 6 at Moor Park Golf Club, Hertfordshire.

Pick-a-Point came top in voting by the readers of PSI magazine from a shortlist, which included contenders from Samsung Techwin, Synectics, CoVi Technologies, GE Security, DVTel and Pelco.

The advanced Pick-a-Point, which has been used extensively with Dedicated Micros NetVu Connected products, is able to replicate the simplicity of operation associated with a traditional analogue matrix by allowing control of multiple video servers without the need for thousands of metres of cabling.  It also offers the potential to build a traditional composite video wall displaying cameras from a number of monitored sites delivering control over any camera in the system, while retaining all important keyboard and joystick functionality.

From the start Pick-a-Point has been designed to be intuitive for operators, providing an environment they are already familiar with, which greatly simplifies and speeds up image retrieval.  After initial bespoke commissioning by BBV or an approved installer, operators can simply pick and click cameras using Pick-a-Point's GUI (Graphical User Interface) from a site's database to view the images they require - without having to know which digital video recorder the camera is linked to.  Also, unlike many virtual matrix solutions, Pick-a-Point is a dedicated hardware based workstation with embedded software, removing reliability and training issues associated with PC software-only based systems.

Said Eddie Dautry-Turner, Pick-a-Point Product Manager at BBV: "We are delighted that the innovative nature of Pick-a-Point has been recognised in this PSI Premier Award, particularly as it is voted for by the industry."

Added Pauline Norstrom, Worldwide Head of Marketing from Dedicated Micros: "We have worked closely with BBV on a number of projects where the unique Virtual Matrix capability of Pick-a-Point has proved to be extremely effective in controlling CCTV systems - such as our own DS2 - over a large geographical area."
