Dedicated Micros used IFSEC to introduce embedded video analytics

Published on 5 June 2007

Dedicated Micros - part of AD Group - used IFSEC 2007 to spotlight a range of NetVu Connected CCTV products that have an embedded video analytics capability from the start.  Determined to lead the market, the company is the first to introduce a truly integrated, embedded software and hardware, platform providing intelligent CCTV solutions for key applications from transport to retail.

To deliver this functionality, Dedicated Micros is able to unlock the benefits of AD Group's own NetVu Connected DSP (Digital Signal Processor) architecture, combined with sister company D-Tec's long-term expertise in the area of image processing - gained through its proven award-winning video smoke detection products.  A new range of capabilities, developed by the Image Processing Team, will now be provided though D-Tec Analytics.  These will work on DM's Analytics Capable products via a simple upgrade licence.

Pauline Norstrom, Worldwide Head of Marketing at Dedicated Micros, said:  "We have seen a growing demand amongst specifiers, installers and end users for video analytics to provide intelligent security and management information capabilities.  Sadly, to date, many solutions have simply not lived up to the manufacturers' claims, due in part to hardware or software limitations, and, crucially, not being integrated properly with the other elements of an application."

"At DM we are determined to transform this situation for the better.  In response to the requirement for truly effective and capable video analytics we see the 'killer application' as being in the mid-range CCTV market where we can offer the ability to deliver video analytics which is actually embedded in the hardware platform - something unique in the marketplace."

Video analytics capable systems from Dedicated Micros comprise: the SD Range, DV-IP, DV-IP RT, DV-IP Codec, CamVu 2000 Megapixel Camera, HighVu Excel and TransVu (an AD Network Video product).

The industry leading video analytics capabilities which will now be available to customers of Dedicated Micros include: Object Left - this could be applied to identify a suspicious package at an airport; Object Removed - ideal in a hospital environment where valuable drugs are stored; People Counting - allowing, for instance, a retailer to monitor footfall; ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) - offering the potential to track vehicles entering and leaving a site; Perimeter Protection (sterile area) -  this could be applied in conjunction with other measures, such as remotely monitored, detector activated CCTV, for out of hours security.  These are in addition to the already available Smoke and Flame Detection through D-Tec.
