Dedicated Micros celebrates 25 years

Published on 1 May 2007

Dedicated Micros - part of AD Group - is celebrating an impressive 25 years as a pioneer in the CCTV industry.  For a quarter of a century it has maintained a global industry leadership position by staying at the very forefront of video management technology.  Today, more than seven million images every second of every day are recorded and viewed using the company's DVRs and network video products.

Leading entrepreneur Mike Newton, CEO of AD Group and Deputy Chairman of Dedicated Micros, founded the company back in July 4, 1982.  Within two years, Newton's business acumen had brought CCTV's first multiplexer to the market - a landmark in the industry.  It was called the Cam-Plex, and proved to be an instant success.

By 1989, Dedicated Micros had opened offices in the United States and Australia.  Four years later its European office was also in full swing.

Driven by Newton's entrepreneurial spirit, the company's product development surged in leaps and bounds with the System Sprite, Digital Sprite Lite and the market favorite, the Digital Sprite 2.  DVRs became available for every market, from the four-camera Eco line for small business to the enterprise-level BX2.

Dedicated Micros became an integral part of AD Group in 2001 - a business that Mike Newton also created to bring to market leading edge CCTV solutions on the ground, in the air and on the move.  This development has enabled Dedicated Micros to take advantage of a common technological base alongside other Group companies including AD Aerospace, AD Network Video, D-Tec, RemGuard and TSS.

In 2005, Dedicated Micros launched its first product line featuring NetVu Connected, a cutting-edge technology that allows interoperability between AD Group products - and increasingly third parties - over an IP network, giving maximum flexibility to customers with multiple locations and specialised requirements.

Today, Dedicated Micros has additional offices in New Zealand and Canada.  It continues to maintain its position at the forefront of CCTV technology - a good example being MultiMode Recording designed to optimise system performance - with a wide array of products to give both long-standing and new customers quality solutions which meet the around-the-clock demands of surveillance.

Mike Newton, the founder of Dedicated Micros, said:  "We have come a long way in the last 25 years from a handful of employees to nearly 500 based in locations worldwide.  Our success to date has been based very much on a philosophy of constant innovation, moving rapidly from the drawing board to a physical product to meet the surveillance demands of our family of loyal customers."

"The next 25 years are likely to signal dramatic changes in CCTV from the way images are recorded, transmitted and analysed and we are determined that Dedicated Micros will remain at the very forefront of these developments."
