COE Limited, the UK based developer and supplier of advanced video surveillance systems, has completed the supply of a major system to DW Projects for safety monitoring on the M1 widening scheme near Watford, London, UK.  The 10-mile-long Motorway widening scheme is planned for completion in December 2008 and will add a fourth lane to this southern section of the M1 between J6A and J10 that links to the M10 and M25 London orbital.  Principal Contractor Balfour Beatty Skanska JV (BBS JV) are responsible for the overall Design and Construction of the £300M Project for the Highways Agency.  "We have worked with COE on several similar projects over the years and the flexibility and ruggedness of the equipment is paramount in projects like this," said Paris Johnston of DW Projects.  "We also value their pre and post sales design support which ensures that we can rely on a well thought-out solution."

COE supplied fibre transmission equipment and a COE Telecommand control suite for management tasks for the 126-camera system.  COE's digital multi-channel fibre multiplexer reduced the fibre count by picking up multiple video and telemetry signals on just one fibre.  Fibre count is critical in these types of systems as infrastructure is always scarce and costly to install.

The system is due to be expanded as the M1 widening scheme extends and the flexibility and adaptive features of the COE X-Net® system will allow DW Projects to add and extend the monitoring system with ease and minimal cost.
