COE X-Net® supports incident detection in Italian road tunnel upgrade

Published on 28 June 2007

COE Group Plc, the developer and supplier of advanced video systems, has been selected supplier of choice by Distelco, Italy, for the supply of high resolution video codecs for the Martignano Tunnel project in the Trentino region.  The COE X-Net® G3 MPEG4 codecs form the core of the video encoding and transmission system and will make up part of the overall safety system which also incorporates Citilog's MediaTunnel automatic incident detection across 26 of the 43 cameras located within the tunnel.

The project is part of a €76 million project financed by the Provincia Automoma di Trento.  The tunnel is a twin tube design, each 3km long, and is part of the strategic road link for the Trentino region.

"The choice of codec was critical for this project as we required very high resolution images for the Incident Detection System.  The COE X-Net G3 exceeded our specifications and also met the environmental challenges posed by such a project," said Enzo Masini, sales manager for Distelco.

The Citilog MediaTunnel analysis technology was integrated with COE X-Net G3 MPEG-4 codecs to ensure a seamless system was delivered to the End User.

Andrew Wallace, CEO, commented, "Specialist projects such as the Martignano Tunnel demand the highest performance systems and we are very pleased that COE X-Net® has been chosen for this IP CCTV application."

COE has a long history of supplying video transmission and surveillance technology for tunnel projects, which include the Channel Tunnel, the Mont Blanc Tunnel and several Singaporean tunnels, and road projects including the UK Highway Agency's National Traffic Control Centre and the London Congestion Charge.
