Retail Solutions 2007: Axis to highlight value of Network Video in retail systems

Published on 21 March 2007

Axis Communications, the global leader in the network video market, will demonstrate a number of new network video-based retail solutions at Retail Solutions 2007 this year.  Axis has worked with a number leading suppliers in the retail segment to build network video into important retail solutions such as Point Of Sales (POS) analysis.

Axis will also be demonstrating its own people counting solution to collect data about people movements in shops.  The solution running on the network is based on images captured by a camera.  The gathered data is available as real time information or as historic data.

Axis will also offer a glimpse into the future of retail technology in two hour seminars, in both the morning and afternoons, on each day of the show.  During these in-depth seminars Axis, together with some of its key retail solutions partners, will illustrate the advantages of integrating high quality video into key retail solutions.  Solutions likely to be discussed will include POS integration, zone monitoring, flow control, logistics and store management, slip and fall analysis and Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) incident handling using high quality video.  A look into what the future brings in terms of Intelligent Video analysis will also be discussed.

Steve Gorski, managing director, Axis Communications (UK) Limited explains:

"There are so many types of systems out there now to help retailers maximise customers' retail experience or reduce shrinkage and we are discovering many of these systems would be more powerful if integrated into a network video system."

Axis will be demonstrating a new family of mega pixel network cameras at the show.  These cameras are likely to appeal to retailers demanding higher image quality than they have been able to achieve with their existing analogue-based CCTV systems.  Image quality is likely to be increasingly important as demand for video with analysis-based systems rises.

One of the afternoon Business Track seminars will be given by Mark Gould, managing director of the Irish book store chain and Axis customer Hughes & Hughes.  Mr Gould will be talking about the benefits that his company has derived from deploying network video across many of its book stores in Ireland.  Hughes & Hughes recently won the contract to provide bookstores into Heathrow Terminal Five.

Axis recently appointed Johan Åkesson, business development director, retail sector.  Mr Åkesson will be in attendance throughout the show.  He is focused on building Axis' offering and presence in the retail sector globally.  He will be responsible for identifying new strategic partners in the sector.  Three of these partners will be unveiled at Retail Solutions 2007 and all will be present on Axis' stand throughout the show.

Axis has also funded a new website carrying content from the world of the retail analytics and surveillance. Information and news about various network video applications for retailers will be detailed on the site. The site, which was launched this month, can be found at http://www.retail-surveillance.com/

Steve Gorski summarises:

"We are very excited about exhibiting at such an important retail show as Retail Solutions for the first time.  It marks an increased focus by Axis globally on this key market.  We will be talking to retailers about the benefits of integrating network video systems into the array of IT solutions that retailers are already using to understand customer behaviour and reduce shrinkage."
