Bank Biometrics 3D Facial Recognition future has just begun

Published on 7 November 2006

One of the most renowned European banks wanted a secure installation for access control system that operates completely without ID cards, keys or PIN technology.  This was to enable secure access for about 1,500 employees to the bank's new building.  Eliminating the risk of tokens and keys being lost, stolen or misused, this system uses only biometric verification methods.  Speed being a very important factor especially in the morning rush.  Eighty of A4's 3D facial recognition systems were selected for entrances in the Bank combined with speed gates to ensure that there is no delay or hold up during peak times, especially in the morning when most of the 1,500 employees enter the building.

The 80 biometric 3D face recognition readers have been applied to physical access and time and attendance recording.  A4Vision's advanced 3D facial recognition system directs structured, invisible light onto a subject's face to create a facial grid of 40,000 measurable data points.  The system performs multiple facial scans and comparisons against a database of stored images and corresponding data, performing accurate identification at sub-second speeds, from which authorized persons are confirmed for access.  A4Vision's 3D facial readers secure entrance areas of the bank in combination with other security components of the installation.  Speed and accuracy is a main requirement where you have volume users arriving and the ability of the 3D Facial readers to take make sub second recognition is essential for use in these areas.  This technology makes it an idea system that would apply to airports and mass entry points with in a country or company, whilst providing high security levels.

A4Vision's facial recognition applications work within an existing access control infrastructure minimizing costs associated with adding technology.  A4Vision has developed applications and custom interfaces with the leading access control systems for a streamlined approach to deployment.  This complete range is available from Premier Electronics Ltd.
