2008 Olympics safer with Vicon

Published on 13 March 2008

Vicon's cameras have been chosen to monitor the Beijing National Stadium during the Olympics this summerThe opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Summer Olympics, as well as some of the athletic events, will be held at the newly-constructed Beijing National Stadium.  When completed, the stadium will be able to seat over 90,000 spectators.

As athletes and spectators converge on Beijing this summer, Olympic committees and government officials are under great pressure to provide a safe and secure environment for visitors both before and during the event.  A big event such as this can be a focus for terrorist attacks, and it is crucial that high-tech video surveillance is used to its full.  Realising the importance of spectator safety within the venue, decision-makers are depending on Vicon's cameras to monitor the stadium.

Vicon's Surveyor VFT day/night dome cameras were chosen because of their excellent record for performance and reliability, and will be installed around the stadium along with fixed cameras on Vicon's Vistar pan & tilt drives.

"It has been said that the Beijing National Stadium, when completed, will be the world's largest enclosed space and it is exhilarating that Vicon will be a part of securing this facility," said J.C. Caine, International Sales Manager at Vicon.
