Responsible for more than 75 million passengers a year and over 2,700 flights daily, this world-class airport is one of the busiest in the nation. A steady increase in the number of flights and passengers has local authorities focused on ensuring that high levels of security, crowd control, and decreased passenger wait times continue to be addressed.

Operational overview

Airport facilities include several passenger terminals serving more than 30 airlines, cargo areas with warehouse and aircraft parking facilities, and 6 primary runways. Multiple video surveillance systems and over 4,000 security cameras operate independently to cover the 7,280 square feet of airport grounds.

Strategic challenge

Standardise on a solution for the airport's facility-wide operations to:

  • Manage video surveillance cameras and access control systems more efficiently and provide security personnel with a central command centre to monitor the entire operation
  • Integrate with existing access control, cameras, and large scale high-availability storage
  • Share intelligence with the Department of Aviation, local authorities, airline security, and other organisations

The solution

Nextiva Critical Infrastructure

The bottom line

Nextiva Critical Infrastructure has helped this international airport centralise its security operations and integrate its security video with information from access control and other security systems. This integration allows security personnel to be more efficient by providing a complete picture of events that occur. This robust video management solution helps the Department of Aviation proactively detect threats and share intelligence with the TSA, individual airlines, FBI, and other agencies.

Actionable intelligence for a safer world

Verint and Department of Aviation have integrated data from access control systems with video of various cameras

Verint worked with the Department of Aviation to design a comprehensive solution to integrate data from access control systems with video from over 1,300 surveillance cameras. Nextiva Critical Infrastructure provides a reliable, single, networked video surveillance solution on an open standards-based platform. As a result, airport personnel are able to monitor information from disparate systems, such as access control systems, while viewing live video feeds from a central command centre, and rapidly address threats.

Nextiva's advanced event management system and integration with physical security subsystems provides a level of situational awareness that is far greater than can be achieved by any of these systems alone. Integrating information from video and incident management, emergency response, and other security systems, Nextiva Critical Infrastructure helps this airport rapidly detect potential problems. For example, Nextiva helped identify internal FAA violations by airport employees that were immediately addressed.

The system's open platform leverages integrated analytics for real time analysis of scenes. For example, if a potential breach or other significant event occurs, Nextiva analytics can pinpoint the event and trigger an alarm to the appropriate personnel, promoting a more proactive response. Video analytics can help detect unattended luggage, passengers moving through an entry point in the wrong direction, perimeter violations, and other significant events.

The Nextiva portfolio of video solutions continues to help airports around the world rapidly respond to incidents, share information with government agencies and local authorities, and deter possible threats.
