Sins of emission

Transport is currently responsible for 23% of EU CO2 emissions.  As the fastest growing sector of emissions, it will account for almost 30% of EU emissions by 2010.  Over the next eight years, road passenger transport is forecast to increase by 19% while the amount of freight carried by road is set to go up by 50%.  Aircraft produce about 3% of EU CO2 emissions.  International experts say that aviation will account for 5% of total global warming in 2050.
