Axis has delivered one million network cameras

Published on 26 October 2007

Axis Communications, the global leader in the network video market, has reached a milestone in its business.  The company has now delivered one million network cameras since it launched the world's first network camera 11 years ago.  The market is showing increasing interest in network video products for various security installations.  In the first half of 2007, the company increased its sales in the video product segment by more than 40 per cent.

Since the launch of the first network camera, the AXIS 200, in 1996, Axis has introduced a large number of network cameras and currently has the market's broadest product portfolio.  Today, development focuses on solutions such as intelligent video, which offers the possibility to recognise irregular events or movements, to make smarter use of security guarding resources.  Megapixel technology is driving picture quality to new heights, with ever increasing image resolutions.

Video surveillance has witnessed a step change over the last eleven years as traditional CCTV systems are now giving way to more open Internet Protocol based systems that can be fully networked and integrated with other security systems and applications.  Scalability, remote access and cost effectiveness are some of the benefits of installing a network video system today.

Axis is committed to staying at the forefront of network video and the company devotes considerable resources to research and development (R&D) - last year, Axis invested over £12 million.  Axis now employs 160 people in R&D out of a total global workforce of more than 500 today.

Ray Mauritsson, chief executive officer, Axis Communications, commented, "The huge interest in network video products and our position as the technical and market leader have greatly contributed to the development of the company during the last few years.  We are proud of having achieved one million supplied cameras and thankful for the trust our customers have shown in us.  The transition from analogue to digital technology is continuing in all customer segments and the customer projects we are involved in are increasing both in numbers and size.  This is true of installations in the train stations, schools, shopping centres and airports worldwide."

Steve Gorski, managing director, Axis Communications (UK) Ltd, commented, "This commitment to educating the market, the support package it offers its channel partners, and R&D investment over the years goes together to create a very positive backdrop feeding our continued success in leading network video market growth."
