Bosch continues success of London underground upgrade

Bosch Security Systems reports the continuing success of its three-year programme working with London Underground - and more specifically Metronet Rail and Tubelines - to deliver complete CCTV solutions across the entire network.  The programme includes not only assistance with the design and commissioning of the technology deployed, but also its ongoing service and maintenance.

Central to each solution are various Bosch cameras, domes, and video matrix technologies linked to multi-channel digital video recorders (DVRs) to provide every station with 100% surveillance and recording capability.  This means that cameras cover not simply the platforms, but also the ticket halls, barriers, stairs, and all entry and exit points for all stations being upgraded under Metronet Rail and Tubelines control.

"The demanding environments in which our technology needs to operate has meant re-designing and re-engineering certain of our products to meet the very stringent criteria laid down by London Underground," explains Lindsay Brennwald of Bosch Security Systems.

"Our cameras, domes and video matrix products have had to undergo rigorous vibration and shock testing, as well as tests to see how they perform under extreme environmental conditions.  Our products have all passed these trials, including their EMC compatibility and even the toxicity of the plastics used in their manufacture."

Bosch Security Systems' cameras and associated CCTV systems are proven under the most challenging of conditions, and London Underground is no exception.  Their 15-bit technology, for example, that denotes their dynamic range, means they are capable of discerning images in bright sunlight, or dark shadows without difficulty - a scenario not untypical on the network.

"Our cameras also feature Bilinx bespoke protocols to enable adjustments (for example changes to colour balance, Automatic Gain Control, Contouring or Black Levels) to be made to the camera remotely, from anywhere along the video cable, thus greatly simplifying the engineering and installation process," Lindsay adds, "and easing subsequent maintenance."

The company's success on the London Underground builds on the strength it has already demonstrated in the transport sector, most recently providing high-performance CCTV for the new Eurostar interchange stations at Dartford International and Stratford International in an order worth more than £250,000.
