Putting the brakes on crime at Quarry Garage

Quarry Garage is a motor dealership very much at the forefront of moves to keep risk and insurance premiums under control, thanks to its implementation of the latest event-driven CCTV from RemGuard.

The driving force behind Quarry Garage's proactive approach to risk management and security is proprietor John Denton who recognises the pressing requirement to keep all-important insurance premiums under control.  John is a well-known figure in the motor trade being heavily involved in the UK's Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMI) as a Vice President; he is also Chairman of the Independent Garage Dealership section and of the North Eastern region.

Says Denton: "I see the event-driven solution as a crucially important part of our proactive risk management.  Where RemGuard's remotely monitored CCTV service really stands out is in its ability to qualify what is going on, take timely action and eliminate problematic false alarms.  At the end of the day it is all about peace of mind, having someone watching over the business when I am not around, and implementing a proactive approach to risk management."

Two incidents helped to confirm in Denton's mind the need for remotely monitored CCTV.  The first involved a customer who, when accidentally locked in, scaled a perimeter fence - the end result was a broken leg and four and a half years of litigation.  The other concerned the theft of wheels and radios by a gang out of hours, who spent more than four hours wondering around on site unchallenged.

With the conventional, continuously recorded CCTV that Quarry had at the time sadly the images gathered were only available for later review, there was no prospect of intervention to take remedial action.

This situation has certainly changed for the better with the adoption of RemGuard's event-driven solution, which was soon justifying the initial investment.

Says John: "It was only about a month after RemGuard's service was up and running that we had a repeat of the customer lock-in. Fortunately this time around the operators at RemGuard's RVRC (Remote Video Response Centre) were able to see what was going on, manage the event and have a key holder on-site in a matter of minutes."

As for the wheel stealing incident, Denton is confident that this can be handled effectively in future: "If anyone does break-in and tries something similar we have the reassurance that they are going to be detected and action taken."

"It is all about assuming the worst and taking action after adverse experiences, with the move to an intelligent CCTV solution being a good example of this willingness to make security a high priority and not to leave it to one side amongst all the other pressures that come with running a motor dealership."
